My Studio

I am so excited to share some pictures of my new photography studio in Chico, California.  I have been dreaming about this building for the past five years and I love being able to photograph newborns and babies in my new space.  My neighbor, Ralph Auer, of Auer Construction did an amazing job making this dream of mine come to life.  When I planned my studio I knew I wanted two things; a huge window for light and a huge closet for all my props and gear.  My studio has a large, three panel sliding glass door to let in the light.  I have sheers to filter in dreamy natural light and blackout curtains to use when I want dramatic studio lighting to show off newborn details.  There is plenty of room for my clients to relax while I am taking pictures and most importantly…a huge walk-in closet for my props!  I love having this much space to shoot.  It allows me to have all my setups ready to go when babies arrive and eliminates transition time between shots.  Below is a little peak inside my brand new space:

I had this custom sign build with my logo by Chico Wood Works.  Clients can pull right up to the side of my studio, so they don’t have to walk too far with their new baby.

Below is my studio. I have a little snack station with water for clients. I love this air mattress for natural family poses and I can push it right out of the way or deflate it if I want to use a couch or do standing poses. We installed long strips of metal on the walls so I can hang my photography backdrops easily with magnets. This eliminates the need for a huge backdrop stand and allows me to change out backdrops and set ups quickly and easily.

My prop closet is definitely my favorite part of my studio. I love having everything in one place. This is where I keep all my buckets, beds, baskets and bowls. I am a little obsessed with baby wraps and soft layers and have them organized by color to make it easy to color coordinate my sessions. Having my headbands, hats, wraps and other props organized by color makes them easy to find and plan a cohesive gallery for my clients. I look forward to all the babies and families I will photograph in this space!
